Purple up! For Military Children Commemorative Apparel

Purple up! For Military Children is a nation-wide initiative to show support to military youth for their courage and sacrifices; While supporting their development within their communities. In honor of these children, April is the Month of the Military Child. Purple Up! For Military Children is celebrated on April 15 and was started at the University of New Hampshire 4-H. The Color purple was chosen to symbolize the combination of all the military branches. Each year has a theme and for 2025’s theme for the Month of the Military Child was, Building Stronger Character and Relationships.
It was an honor to create this design for The American Legion, Randolph Post 707. To represent the theme of Building Stronger Character and Relationship, my client had envisioned the tree of life with helicopter tree seeds floating through the wind to symbolize that no matter where they go, these children are able to grow from the support of their communities. To show our support for children of current service members and veterans within the design we came up with the idea of having the roots of the main tree form a heart around a seedling whose own roots spelled out the word vets. The large tree is the representation of established roots of the military child’s support system and the potential growth that child can achieve with care. The military child is then represented by the seedling who is given the foundation from a nation-wide community to establish their own roots. Above the design we included the quote, “Military Children grow everywhere the winds carry them.”
