Foal Portrait

 I donated my time by offering a commission spot in a raffle to help raise funds for the vet care of an off the track thoroughbred mare and her unexpected foal. The previous owners did not disclose that the mare had been exposed to any stallions, and it was assumed that the mare wasn't pregnant after a failed breeding attempt. The mare was still raced until her new owners purchased her and did not look pregnant. Shortly after moving to her new home the mare gave birth to a premature foal. To help with the unexpected cost of vet care for the two horses, a kind member of my local equine community hosted a raffle where multiple people donated items or their services. Thanks to the donations enough funds were raised and both horses are living healthy lives. 

The winner of the commission spot asked me to illustrate their horse’s foal surrounded by sunflowers. As an added touch I made the suggestion about using warm tones to give the impression of a sunset, as well as adding clouds. The illustration was painted digitally and then printed on a canvas.
